Description

CNC (computer numerical control) machining is a milling process that employs computerized controls and rotating multipoint cutting tools to progressively remove material from the workpiece, producing custom-designed parts and products. CNC machining is suitable for producing high accuracy, high tolerance parts for prototyping, one-off, and small to medium production runs.

CNC machining is a mechanical machining process, along with drilling, turning, and a variety of other machining processes. The CNC machining process begins with the creation of a 2D or 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) part design. The completed design is exported to a CNC-compatible file format and converted by a CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software. The file is imported into a CNC machine program which dictates the actions of the machine and the movements of the tooling across the workpiece.

Once the milling operation is completed, the milled parts proceed to the finishing and post-processing stages of production which include grinding, deburring, heat treatment, surface treatment, etc.

There are several types of CNC machines โ€” namely the CNC lathe, CNC mill, and Wire EDM.

With the CNC lathe, the stock for the parts turn on a spindle, and a fixed cutting tool is brought into contact with the workpiece. Lathes are perfect for cylindrical parts and are easily set up for high repeatability. Conversely, on a CNC mill, the rotating cutting tool moves around the workpiece, which remains fixed to a bed. Mills are all-purpose CNC machines that can handle most any machining process.

CNC machines can be simple 2-axis machines where the tool head moves only in the X and Z-axis, or much more complex 5-axis CNC mills, where the workpiece can also move. This allows for more elaborate structures and designs without requiring extra operator work and expertise. This makes it easier to produce complex parts and reduces the chance of operator error.

Wire Electrical Discharge Machines (EDMs) takes an entirely different approach to CNC machining, they rely on conductive materials and electricity to erode the workpiece. This process can cut any conductive material, including all metals.

Auwell is capable in CAM programming for high efficiency and desirable quality. The Auwell team can design the necessary fixtures and tools for the milling process and test gauge for mass production quality control. CMM is available for sample dimensional inspection. Surface treatments include grinding, polishing, electrochemical deburring, KTL, powder coating, painting, zinc plating, nickel plating, chromating, blackening and laser marking, etc., for aluminum parts, anodizing and silver plating is also available. PPAP documents are available upon request.

Technical Specifications

CNC machining technology allows the process to machine parts of a wide range of materials, including:

-Metals (including alloys, exotic metals, heavy-duty, etc.)

-Plastics (including thermosets and thermoplastics)

-Elastomers

-Ceramics

-Composites

-Glass

Auwell focuses on the following metals for CNC machining: mild steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, aluminum, and alloy steel. With the pretreatment of extrusion, hot forging, cold forming, investment casting, die-casting, etc.

Machine capacity: Conversion lathe, CNC lathe, 2-axis to 5-axis CNC machining machines, and other relevant machines including grinding machines, EDM machines, wire cut machines. We can utilise the most suitable machine for production to reach the desired quality while being cost-effective.

Advantages

-Rich Experience

More than 20 years of experience in CNC machining products development and production, especially to the European and North American markets, with a solid understanding of the material, technical and quality standards worldwide.

-Fast Turnaround

Generally, we provide a quotation within 3 working days. Combining the latest manufacturing technologies and facilities, Auwell can provide fast prototypes in just 2 weeks for simple projects.

-Comprehensive Solution Provider

Auwell provides comprehensive services for CNC machining starting from designing, through prototyping, tooling/fixture development, sampling, mass production, and logistic and post-sale support.

-Rigid QC Policies

The most rigorous quality policy starts from material control and is followed through to final pre-shipment inspection. Material certificates include the mill certificate, 3rd party chemical components, and mechanical property reports, as well as RoHS and REACH reports upon request. Other reports include dimensional reports, surface treatment thickness, and salt fog test reports, etc. We structure our processes, creating Flow Charts and Control Plans before production, making sure all QC processes are in accordance with ISO9001-2015 requirements and drawing specifications.

-Flexible Payment Term

For mass production, we offer flexible payment terms, reasonable credit terms will be given, the client only pays when they are happy with the product they received. For long-term projects, we offer call-off inventory services for fast delivery requirements.

Applications

CNC machining products have widely been used in almost all industrial sectors including:

aerospace and defense, automotive, energy, industrial machinery, medical, robotics, and R&D.

-Aerospace and defense

-Automotive
