Company Overview

1854: Iwakiya was founded.Buntaihei (the first-generation master of Yuwakiya Soy Sauce) started his soy sauce brewery in the Takenaka district of Oita city, where it still remains today. From that location, 1897: Mataichi (the second head of Yuwakiya Soy Sauce) died unexpectedly and the family business entered a period of hardship. The family relative who had become Zenbeis guardian left with all of the stores funds.Young Zenbei, who had graduated from elementary school, gave up continuing his education and succeeded the family business. Receiving both material and spiritual support from the founding doctor of the local Oshima Clinic, young Zenbei devoted himself to reviving the family business.Young Zenbei not only went to neighboring towns and villages, but anywhere he could go on his bicycle in pursuit of sales.Receiving both material and spiritual support from the founding doctor of the local Oshima Clinic, young Zenbei devoted himself to reviving the family business. For example, he sent soy sauce and miso bean paste by railway car to Takachiho in neighboring Miyazaki Prefecture (approx. 90km from our company on a steep route with a maximum elevation difference of 800m that follows roads deep in the mountains on the borderline of the two prefectures) and he himself rode his bicycle selling these goods over several days and then again went right back home on his bicycle, traveling along mountain roads.Young Zenbei spared no effort, worked frugally, and did all he could to expand his business. In Takachiho, there are still today hotels with longstanding histories and individual customers who have used our soy sauce since that period (thank you!).The Oita Prefecture Soy Sauce Union was founded in 1905.1927: the phantom fourth-generation masterOur company has two fourth heads. One is the first born son Masaji Kadowaki (drafted into the army after graduating high school and died in battle in 1944 at the age of 21) and the other is the second born son, Matajiro Kadowaki, who took over the family business in place of his elder brother.1928 Yuwakiyas trademark registrationThe Yuwakiya logo features the Chinese character signifying the "Iwa" in "Iwakiya" on a barrel seen from above, with the protrusions on the top and bottom, left and right It can be inferred that with the production of this logo Yuwakiya went from being written in Chinese characters to Japanese katakana characters.1995 The dressing plant is completed1999 The headquarters and seasoning plant are completed2005 The agricultural products processing plant is completedPrimary processing being performed for red shiso and black garlic2008: Discontinuation of wooden barrel brewingDue to the deteriorated state of the 100 year warehouse, which had been in operation for over a century, the process of brewing soy sauce in wooden barrels was discontinued.Currently, the fifth-generation master, Masayuki Kadowaki, in his post as president of the company, continues to take on new challenges, embarking on a diverse range of processed agricultural product businesses, with a primary focus on soy sauce and miso (soybean paste).Thank you for looking at this website.
